Delphi's decision to have its top 550 executives train its employees came almost as an afterthought.
Keith Wander, Delphi's executive director of employee development, was going to let an outside agency handle the indoctrination. Wander told company Chairman J.T. Battenberg III how much it would cost Delphi to sponsor 400 sessions.
'`How many executives do we have in Delphi?' Battenberg asked. I said, `About 400' (at that time), and J.T. said, `I think we just made our decision about how we're going to deliver this material,'' Wander recalls.
'It was like a dream come true for me because that's how I wanted to see it happen. Our executives were going to get exposed to people's true sentiments.'
