Manby gets larger role
NORCROSS, Ga. - Joel Manby, CEO of Saab Cars USA Inc., has been given worldwide retail development responsibility for Saab Automobile AB of Sweden. He also will now direct Saab sales in Asia and the Middle East, while remaining in Georgia as CEO of the U.S. unit. Daniel Chasins, COO of Saab Cars USA, has been named president of the unit.
ACURA GETS NEW AGENCY
TORRANCE, Calif. - American Honda Motor Co. Inc. said last week it will take away Acura creative work and media buying from Suissa Miller in Los Angeles, which won the account in October 1996. American Honda will consolidate the $190 million Acura account at Honda marque agency Rubin Postaer & Associates of Santa Monica, Calif.
SONIC BUYS 10 STORES
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sonic Automotive Inc. has agreed to purchase 10 dealerships in five separate transactions for $54 million in cash and stock. The dealerships: Freeland Automotive Group, six dealerships in Fort Myers and Naples, Fla.; Integrity Dodge in Las Vegas; Joe Camp Ford in La Porte, Texas; Altman Dodge in Charleston, S.C.; and Southlake Volvo in Atlanta. The transactions will give Sonic an additional $285 million in annual revenue.
COUTS JOINS NET GROUP
DENVER - Rodney Couts, 40, executive director of the National Vehicle Leasing Association, is leaving to head a new association - the Internet Auto Dealers Marketing Association in Denver. The Internet association, which will be launched Sunday, Aug. 1, seeks to help dealers use the Internet effectively.
