New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. will make a rolling changeover to 2000 model cars on Friday, July 30. The Chevrolet Prizm and Toyota Corolla are built at the Fremont, Calif., plant, which also assembles the Toyota Tacoma pickup. The Tacoma changeover will be Aug. 27.
General Motors has scheduled rolling changeovers at several plants this week. The C and M plants in Lansing, Mich., will begin building the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and Oldsmobile Alero Thursday, July 29. Production of the 2000 Pontiac Bonneville starts today, July 26, at the Orion Township, Mich., plant. Output of the Chevrolet Malibu, now built only in Oklahoma City, also begins today.
This week, Honda will start producing 2000 Accords in Marysville, Ohio.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, now is working a second shift at its Princeton, Ind., plant where the Toyota Tundra is assembled. Last week, 1,220 Tundras were produced, 316 of them on the second shift.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Canada, were down last week for vacation. Both plants return today.
