In the June 21 issue, Automotive News made errors in a package of stories on Pages 54 and 55 about a study of automotive suppliers:
References to shareholder return, revenue growth, return on net assets and other measures for the years 1996-98 should have noted that these were average annual changes over the three-year period.
Also, the story at the bottom of Page 54 listed an incorrect figure and year in a comparison of price-earnings ratios. The year is 1998; the correct figure for the Standard & Poor's 500 Index is 32.6 times earnings.
The truck sales totals in the table on Page 18 of the June 28 issue contained errors in the year-to-date columns. The corrected figures are contained in the table at left.
As a result of the incorrect tables, some totals and percentages in the accompanying story were also incorrect. The corrected information:
Total medium- and heavy-truck sales through May were 211,345, up 28.5 percent.
Sales of all trucks through May, including light-duty, were 3,546,542, up 11 percent.
