Ford raises some prices
DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. has added $95 to the prices of most Mercury and Lincoln models. The increase was applied to the Mercury Mystique, Cougar, Sable, Grand Marquis and Mountaineer, and to the Lincoln Continental, Town Car and Navigator. No increase was announced for the Mercury Tracer and Villager and the yet-to-be-introduced Lincoln LS.
The increase added $11 to the average price of Ford Motor Co. cars and light trucks on a sales-weighted basis, Automotive News estimates.
SAAB VIGGEN: $38,325
NORCROSS, Ga. - Saab Cars USA Inc. has priced its new 9-3 Viggen high-performance hatchback coupe at $38,325, including a $575 destination charge. The car goes on sale in May, and only 400 will be imported into the United States for the 1999 model year. Standard equipment includes a power glass moonroof, automatic climate control, leather interior and side airbags.
NEW YORK - UnitedAuto Group reported that net income more than doubled in the first quarter, to $3.7 million. A one-time write-off in the year-ago quarter magnified the improvement. UnitedAuto has agreed to sell a controlling share to an investment firm led by Roger Penske. Meanwhile, UnitedAuto reported last week that as of March 31 it had violated its lender agreements because its debt was too high.
