When Mercedes-Benz replaces today's C class with an all-new model in 2000, it will add a hatchback to the range to combat cars such as the BMW 318ti and Audi A3 in Europe. These photos are computer-enhanced, based on moderately disguised prototypes. Two of the new car's striking styling cues are the low hoodline and the arching roofline that ends in the short rear deck. The new C-class sedan is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in September; the hatchback will bow in the 2001 model year.
