General Motors promised last week to make a very welcome change in the way dealers order vehicles. Dealers no longer will have to spend hours and hours on the computer each Tuesday trying to get desirable options.
To which we say: Amen. Dealers want to sell - not pore over computers. However, GM must now create a rational formula for allocating popular vehicles and optional equipment - and communicate it clearly to dealers. Without a buy-in from dealers, GM won't make much progress.
