For the first time in more than six months, Ford Motor Co.'s Louisville, Ky., plant did not work daily overtime last week. The plant, which produces the Ford Explorer, Ford Ranger and Mercury Mountaineer, has been on daily overtime since Sept. 21, 1998.
Ford's plant in Avon Lake, Ohio, passed up daily overtime last week for only the second time in 1999. Avon Lake builds the Mercury Villager and the Nissan Quest minivans.
U.S. and Canadian auto manufacturers were closed Friday, April 2, and are closed today, April 5, for the Easter holiday.
North American car production reached 2 million on March 29, two days earlier than in 1998.
