FRANKFURT - DaimlerChrysler AG will abandon its year-old plan to produce trucks with Nissan Diesel Motor Co. if Renault buys a stake in Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.
'We are not interested in continuing with a triangular relationship,' declared Juergen Hubbert, a member of the DaimlerChrysler management board.
DaimlerChrysler's planned joint venture with Nissan Diesel, announced last July, was viewed as a first step toward a closer link.
There were plans to launch the first common product in 2002, said Kurt Lauk, another member of the DaimlerChrysler management board.
DaimlerChrysler recently ended its own talks about taking an equity stake in Nissan.
