Despite heavy camouflage, the outlines of Toyota's redesigned Avalon luxury sedan, due this fall, are visible in this unauthorized photo of a prototype undergoing winter testing. At the front, the new Avalon has large, aerodynamic headlights and apparently a clear plastic panel in the upper grille area, similar to early Mercury Sables. Along the sides, the wheel wells have more of a lip, and the low horizontal molding that used to run the length of the car has been removed. The new Avalon apparently will keep its third side window in the rear roof pillar. Changes to the rear are covered, except to show the unusual shape of the amber turn signals in the taillights.
