The redesigned Chevrolet Monte Carlo, top, and the 10th-annversary Mazda Miata debuted at the Chicago Auto Show last week. The new Monte Carlo goes into production in March in Oshawa, Ontario. The Miata is part of a trend: Low-volume niche vehicles. Mazda plans to number sequentially the 7,500 production run. Isuzu plans to make only about 3,000 VehiCross sport-utilities, using special concrete ceramic dies. For more on the trend, see story and photos on Page 8.
