Although it's hard to tell much from this shapeless mule, the disguised prototype of Jaguar's X400 indicates Jaguar's intention to shift from being solely a producer of exclusive luxury cars to being a more diverse marketer that plays in the lower price echelons as well. The four-door model, built on the Ford Mondeo platform and smaller than the recently launched S-Type, is meant to compete with the BMW 3 series. The all-wheel-drive car is expected on the market in 2001.
