Automotive News Staff Reporter Harry Stoffer has been awarded the Washington Automotive Press Association's 1998 Golden Quill Award for a package of articles about vehicle rollover dangers, especially in high-riding light trucks.
The package was published in the June 8, 1998, edition of Automotive News.
The articles explained why the rollover threat has been one of the longest-running and most contentious automotive safety issues and revealed that major obstacles remain in the way of resolution.
At a Jan. 23 dinner, the association gave three other Golden Quills for automotive journalism, and it presented its 1998 Golden Gear Award to Tom Gale, DaimlerChrysler Corp.'s executive vice president for product strategy, design and passenger-car operations.
Stoffer, a veteran Capitol Hill reporter, joined the Automotive News staff in March 1997. He received the Washington association's 1997 Golden Quill for a package of articles about automotive industry lobbying in the nation's capital.
