SAN FRANCISCO - For the second year in a row, FirstAmerica Automotive, based in San Francisco, received the 1999 Best of Show Award on Saturday, Feb. 6, from the Newspaper Association of America.
Along with the Best of Show Dealer Automotive Newspaper Display Advertising Award, or DANDY, comes a $2,500 cash prize, which was awarded to FirstAmerica at the National Automobile Dealers Association's annual convention here.
It marked the first time in the 23-year history of the DANDY Awards that the Best of Show prize was won by the same dealership two years in a row.
The Best of Show Award is given for the best use of newspapers for a single ad, campaign or series of contest categories.
The display ad, with the headline 'CLICK,' told Internet users they could see all of FirstAmerica's inventory at its 14 locations 24 hours a day by using its Web site, anyauto.com. The ad was created by the San Francisco Newspaper Agency.
The Television Bureau of Advertising decided not to hold its MAX Awards at NADA this year, and the Radio Advertising Bureau did not give its Chassie Award this year. Both groups cited changes in marketing strategy.
