Doug Waikem, principal of Waikem Motors in Canton, Ohio, is delighted with Autobytel.com.
More people are using the Internet, Waikem says, 'and our leads are just as good now, if not better.'
Waikem, who has 12 new-car franchises, says his closing rate on Autobytel.com prospects has gone up during the past three years. They range from 20 percent on Audi to 5 percent on Hyundai and Kia.
The reason for the increase, he said, is his selling process. Not only does Waikem's five-member In-ternet sales staff give price quotes; it gives invoice information, interest rates and current customer and dealer incentives to Internet car shoppers. What is more, Waikem delivers the vehicles he sells through Autoby-tel.com to their purchasers' homes for a test drive.
And when it comes to price, Waikem passes on to consumers the marketing cost he saves on Internet sales, about $100 a vehicle.
Waikem says dealers who experience declining closing rates on Internet prospects probably are pitching just the price of the vehicle and not the selling process.
