DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. has raised prices $50 to $135 on 16 of the 24 models in its Mercury and Lincoln lines.
The Mercury increases were $50 on the Tracer and Mystique, $100 on the Cougar and Grand Marquis and $135 on the Mountaineer. The Lincoln hikes were $105 on the Town Car and Continental.
Because of the low volume of most of those vehicles, the increases amounted to a hike of only $10 in the price of an average Ford Motor Co. 1999 car and light truck, Automotive News estimates.
When it introduced its 1999 models, Ford said its prices were an average of $61 lower than the final prices of 1998s. Increases since that time mean that the average 1999 model is now $9 less than at the end of the 1998 model year.
