Sport-utility owners love their trucks.
A Polk study found that during the 1998 model year almost half of the sport-utility owners purchased another as their next vehicle.
A vast majority, 87 percent, of the respondents said their sport-utility met or exceeded their most important expectation - reliability.
Moreover, 75 percent of sport-utility owners repurchased a light truck - a minivan, pickup or sport-utility - during the period studied.
Sport-utilities benefit from the best marketing of all - word of mouth.
More than half, 52.9 percent, of the respondents said they gave a positive recommendation about their sport-utility to at least five friends or relatives.
When Polk asked respondents why they stayed in the sport-utility market, the most common answers were longevity of the vehicle, low maintenance, performance, price and reputation.
