Mike Jackson, president of Mercedes-Benz of North America Inc., has assumed additional responsibilities as CEO.
The company describes this move as a transitional step in preparation for the retirement of Chairman Michael Basser-mann at the end of 1998.
Jackson has been with Mercedes since 1971, when he joined the company as a dealership technician.
He continued with 18 years of retailing experience for Mercedes.
He was a partner in Euro Motorcars in Bethesda, Md., and had served as chairman of the Mercedes-Benz National Dealer Council before his appointment as senior vice president at corporate headquarters in Montvale, N.J., in 1990.
