DETROIT - Now, dealers can find out how good their Web sites really are.
Automotive News and Ziff-Davis are co-sponsoring a competition to find the eight best dealer Web sites in the United States. Winners of the www.bestcarsite.com competition will receive awards at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in February.
Dealers should register for the contest on the Internet, by visiting www.bestcarsite.com. The deadline for contest entries is Jan. 11, 1999.
There are eight categories:
Best Overall Site
Best Service and Parts Site
Best New-Car Site
Best Pre-owned-Car Site
Judging will be done by a panel of editors from Automotive News and Ziff-Davis, an integrated media and marketing company focused on the Internet.
'The Internet has forever changed the way buyers and sellers interact,' said Peter Brown, editor and associate publisher of Automotive News. Brown said that because car buyers do research and shop online, dealers face more-informed consumers.
'In order to maintain a competitive advantage, dealers need to design innovative, user-friendly and informative Web sites,' he said.
The www.bestcarsite.com contest will recognize the dealerships that are using the Internet most effectively to market themselves to prospective car buyers.
