Estimated North American car and truck production set a record for the third time in seven weeks. Last week's estimated production of 384,509 surpasses the record of 380,627 set during the week of Nov. 2-7.
North American car and truck production in November was up 4.8 percent from November 1997. Car production was up 5.3 percent, and truck production rose 4.2 percent.
The first Toyota Tundra full-sized pickup was built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Inc. on Thursday, Dec. 10. (See story and photo on Page 4.)
Total North American car and truck production reached 15 million on Wednesday, Dec. 9, one day later than it was reached in 1997.
U.S. truck production reached 6 million on Friday, Dec. 11, 12 days earlier than it was reached last year.
