TURIN - Ever hungry for new technical talent, Fiat Auto S.p.A. has underwritten a startup automotive engineering degree program and will supply employees as instructors.
The degree program in automotive engineering will be offered in Turin by Fiat and the Turin Politecnico and will be one of the few in the world devoted exclusively to teaching and research in the automotive field.
Fiat is investing $27.1 million to purchase, renovate and equip a 110,000-square-foot building. The European Union will provide another $12.3 million under an existing regional development grant.
Once the program starts, Fiat will contribute up to $2.8 million a year for 10 years in operating funds. The five-year program is scheduled to start in the 1999-2000 academic year.
