A prototype of Nissan's Xterra sport-utility was spotted during recent cold-weather testing. Slotted underneath the Pathfinder, the Xterra is derived from the Frontier pickup platform and will be built in Smyrna, Tenn. Although larger than most compact sport-utilities, the Xterra is to be priced against that segment, Nissan has said. The Xterra will be unveiled to the public at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. It will go on sale next summer as a 2000 model.
