WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. - BMW of North America Inc. announced prices for the 1999 323i and 328i sedans, the first versions of the redesigned 3-series models to reach the U.S. market.
The 323i sedan starts at $26,970 (including a $570 destination charge), $250 higher than the model it replaces, the 1998 318i. BMW says the new car is 6.4 percent cheaper than a comparably equipped 1998 318i, because it has standard equipment, at no extra charge, that was optional or not available on the 318i.
The 323i represents a new generation of the 3 series, and it has a 2.3-liter six-cylinder engine instead of the 1.9-liter four in the 318i. The base price of the 1999 328i, $33,970 including destination charges, is $300 above the 1998 328i, or 5.2 percent less, comparably equipped.
The new models go on sale in August.
