What will happen to suppliers who don't merge into neat component groupings? Will there be a place in the industry for the 'spinster' parts maker, which provides a valuable product but just can't, or doesn't want to, get married? Probably yes, but they will be the exceptions. Having a technology edge probably will allow some companies to operate outside the industry order. But consultants and analysts warn: Many companies erroneously believe they will fit that description.
