Subaru of New England has introduced a vehicle locator on its Web site (www.subaruofne.com) that allows visitors to determine which of its 58 dealerships stock the cars they want.
The distributorship introduced the feature a month ago. Here is how it works:
An icon for the vehicle locator appears on the first page of the Web site.
A shopper selects a model and options, with the ability to configure - and paint - a vehicle right on the site.
The Web site tallies sticker price based on the vehicle the customer builds online.
The customer can search an individual dealership or a region for the selected car and print out a list of all the dealerships that stock it.
Customers can access the dealer's Web site and communicate with the dealer via e-mail through the Subaru of New England site.
Says Ernie Boch Jr., general manager of Boch Enterprises in Norwood, Mass., which owns the distributorship: 'We want people to be able to sit at their computers, go into the Internet, get all the information they need without leaving the house.'
