STUTTGART, Germany - Daimler-Benz AG is expected to decide Tuesday, June 2, to produce the Maybach super luxury car to compete with Rolls-Royce.
'The mood concerning the Maybach is getting better and better, although most of my colleagues have not yet seen the profitability calculation,' said Juergen Schrempp, Daimler-Benz chairman.
Juergen Hubbert, the top executive for passenger cars, has said he sees a potential sale of about 2,000 to 3,000 units a year.
The Maybach would be priced around $280,000.
'If our analyses show that the Maybach can earn a sufficient return on capital employed,' said Schrempp, 'the most exclusive segment of the luxury market will be defined by a car that bears the star.'
