North American car and truck production surpassed 7 million Tuesday, May 26. That was 11 days earlier than in 1997. North American car and truck production is up 6.5 percent from this time last year.
General Motors' U.S. truck production topped 1 million on Friday, May 29. It took nearly a month longer to reach that number in 1997 when it was accomplished on June 24.
Saturn Corp. will perform a rolling changeover to 1999 models today, June 1, at the Spring Hill, Tenn., plant. The plant builds Saturn coupes, sedans and wagons.
