Audi plans to add stores in 3 cities
MEXICO CITY - Audi expects to add three more Mexican dealerships by year end. The automaker now has four dealerships, known as Audi Centers, in Mexico. The new stores will be in Veracruz, Leon and Merida.
Subcompact Derby joins VW lineup
MEXICO CITY - Volkswagen's latest car, the Derby, is the third new VW on the market in recent months, following the Pointer and the New Beetle. A fourth, a new Passat, is expected in July.
The Derby is an imported version of the Seat Cordova. It retails for about $11,000, and competes in the subcompact market with the Chevy Monza, Nissan Tsuru (Sentra) and Chrysler Neon.
Tax likely to keep CR-V out of market
MEXICO CITY - Honda has added the Accord coupe to its lineup of Civics and the Accord sedan. How about a small sport-utility, the CR-V, from Japan? Not likely. The Civic comes from the United States, and the Accords are from Mexico. Honda would have to pay a 20 percent tax on vehicles imported to Mexico from Japan.
Peugeot opens 7th dealership
MEXICO CITY - Peugeot has added a new dealership, called Parisauto Satelite, just north of here. That makes seven for the young operation, which gets its cars from Chile. The next two are planned for Queretaro and Cancun.
Ford uses huge ad to tout small car
MEXICO CITY - Ford of Mexico wrapped its Mexico City headquarters building with what it called the biggest exterior ad in Latin America. The subject: the Fiesta, a small car imported from England and introduced in March. The sales goal is 10,000 a year.
Navigator hits the showrooms
MEXICO CITY - The Lincoln Navigator is now on sale. The price: about $60,000. Only one model is available - as-is, without additional options.
The new Lincoln LS sport sedan models also will be sold in Mexico. According to a Ford insider, they will be sold only through 22 authorized Lincoln dealerships.
The cars will be offered with only the eight-cylinder engine.
With the LS and Navigator, Ford of Mexico will have a full line of Lincoln products.
