North American makers surpassed 1 million for the month on Friday, May 22, the same day they reached that mark last year.
All U.S. auto plants will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Canadian plants were closed Monday, May 18, in observance of Victoria Day.
Chrysler Corp.'s Jefferson Avenue truck plant in Detroit will close Tuesday, May 26, for model change-over of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plant will be down until July 13.
