Frank Macher, president of ITT Automotive, shows the way to his company's latest effort to promote the correct use of antilock brakes. The $1 million tractor-trailer carries exhibits and a six-seat simulator that demonstrates what it's like to stop in a car with ABS, and without. The truck has been booked at races, fairs and other venues for more than 300 days out of the next year. The campaign continues even though parent company ITT Industries may sell its antilock brake business. Why the effort? 'It's the right thing to do,' said Macher. 'Whoever buys this company, we want to have an ongoing basis for their success.'
