Sunfire price rises $100
DETROIT - Pontiac-GMC has raised prices $100 on three of its four Sunfire cars. The new prices, including the $500 destination charge, are: SE coupe, $13,095; SE four-door, $13,095; GT coupe, $16,095. The convertible was not increased; it stays at $19,995.
GROUP 1 BUYS 5
HOUSTON - Group 1 Automotive Inc., a public dealership group based here, has completed acquisitions of five dealerships with combined revenues of $230 million. The dealerships include Johns Automotive Group (Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep-Ea-gle and Chevrolet dealerships) of Albuquerque, N.M.; Flamingo Ford of Homestead, Fla.; Highland Chrysler-Plymouth-Jeep-Eagle-Dodge in Austin, Texas; and Auto-plex 2000 in Beaumont, Texas.
LOS ANGELES - Dae-woo Motor America said it has joined with Cross Country Automotive Serv-ices to provide emergency roadside assistance to owners of Daewoo vehicles. Daewoo will use 5,500 outlets out of the 23,000 Cross Country service points nationwide. Any mechanic familiar with GM powertrains will be approved to repair the car, with Daewoo consultants available by phone for troubleshooting. Daewoo also said it will launch in 14 U.S. markets this fall: Atlanta; Boston; Philadel-phia; Chicago; Long Island, N.Y.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Providence, R.I.; Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Van Nuys, Ontario, Huntington Beach and San Diego, Calif. There will be one Daewoo factory store in each market.
LOS ANGELES - Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. will offer additional indemnity coverage to Toyota and Lexus dealers who choose to retrofit on/off airbag switches in customers' vehicles.
The coverage will be over and above the standard indemnity insurance Toyota normally provides, and it will kick in should a dealer's insurance run out in the case of a customer lawsuit. As long as the switch is an authorized Toyota part and is installed properly, the coverage is good for the life of the vehicle, no matter how many times it changes ownership.
DETROIT - Visteon Automotive Systems plans to disclose its financial results this Wednesday, May 20, for the first time. Industry analysts have speculated that Ford Motor Co. someday may spin off its huge parts subsidiary. Ford has denied that it plans to do so.
