TOKYO - Saturn Japan is betting that a chance to visit Tennessee will lure shoppers into its stores here.
In a promotion that runs from May 15 to July 26, car shoppers who test drive a Saturn will be eligible to win a trip to Saturn's plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., with a side jaunt to Orlando, Fla.
Other prizes include a spin around a race circuit with a professional driver and an overnight getaway to a Japanese amusement park with a free Saturn.
Saturn, which opened its 18th outlet in Japan on May 3, sold only 602 units here last year. But the pace has quickened as more outlets open and as awareness of the brand increases.
Sales in April totaled 172, compared with 60 a year earlier. For the year through April, sales totaled 487, up from 80 a year earlier.
Saturn offers its full model lineup in Japan at prices beginning at just under ¥2 million, or about $15,380 at current exchange rates.
