Chevrolet is preparing to re-enter the police car business, judging from this prototype of a 2000-model Impala that was snapped during testing. The police car segment has been controlled by the big, V-8-powered, rear-wheel-drive Ford Crown Victoria since Chevrolet discontinued the Caprice in 1996. The new front-wheel-drive, V-6-powered Impala is wider and longer than the current Lumina sedan, but not quite as large as the old Caprice.
