The U.S. commercial truck market continued to show broad strength in March.
Medium- and heavy-duty truck sales totaled 36,434, an increase of 9.5 percent from March 1997. The industry is up 8.4 percent for the year.
Monthly gains were reported in classes 5, 6 and 8. Class 8 sales were up nearly 15 percent in March to 17,551 units.
For the year to date, Class 8 vehicles, the largest commercial trucks, are up 15.4 percent.
Class 7 sales dipped less than 1 percent in March, to 10,184. In the first quarter, Class 7 sales rose 3.3 percent.
