DETROIT - Steve Lyons is the new general sales manager of Ford Division. He succeeds Phil Novell, who plans to retire at year end.
Until retirement, Novell will direct marketing and distribution for the Ford Retail Network, Ford Motor Co.'s effort to consolidate dealerships in selected markets.
Lyons has been general sales manager of Lincoln Mercury. He also was managing director of Ford of Spain. During the five years before the European assignment, Lyons was advertising manager and general marketing manager for Lincoln Mercury, and general marketing manager for Ford Division. He joined Ford in 1972 as a truck design engineer.
Jim Gwaltney becomes general sales manager at Lincoln Mercury, replacing Lyons. Gwaltney, at Ford since 1971, has been executive director of Rental, Lease and Remarketing Operations. His background is mainly in sales and marketing, but includes a top post with Ford Financial Services. His successor was not named.
