NEW ORLEANS - Dale Critz and Randy Hansen have won the 1998 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award.
Critz, president of Critz Inc. in Savannah, Ga., and Hansen, president of Randy Hansen Chevrolet Inc. in Twin Falls, Idaho, were to receive the award Saturday, Jan. 31, at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention here.
This is the second time the award has been shared. The 1977 award also went to two dealers.
Seventy-four dealers were nominated this year.
The Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award recognizes outstanding new-car dealers for exceptional performance in their dealerships and distinguished community service.
It is cosponsored by Time and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in cooperation with NADA.
Faculty members from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration pick the winners.
When Critz was a boy, he swept floors and pumped gas at his father's dealership.
He graduated from Duke University and then served two years in the U.S. Navy before returning to his father's store as a salesman.
In 1973, he became the sole owner of the company. The dealership handles BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Buick and GMC.
Critz serves on the board of directors of the Historic Savannah Foundation and is past treasurer of Telfair Museum of Arts and Sciences.
He is chairman of the board of SunTrust Bank of Savannah. He also founded the Critz Family Foundation, which contributes to arts, religious, social and educational organizations.
Hansen decided at age 12 that he wanted to work at his father's dealership, Ace Hansen Chevrolet Inc.
In 1984, his father wanted to sell the dealership; Hansen, then 28, bought it.
Hansen graduated from Brigham Young University. He is a past president and fundraising chairman for the Valley House Coalition Inc., which provides housing and education for underprivileged people. He is a fundraising chairman and scout master for the Falls District Boy Scouts of America and was chairman of the Twin Falls Library expansion committee.
