Regional rebates have been added to the incentive programs for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Acura and Saab.
Regional incentives often differ from national programs because of the specific needs of a particular area of the country.
The 1997 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable have regional incentives for dealers in some areas. The payments are as high as $600 per car, and they are based upon performance against a factory-set quota. The cutoff date is Oct. 1.
Lincoln has regional rebates on 1997 models for both customers and dealers until Oct. 1. Payments to customers are $5,000 on the Town Car, $4,000 on the Continental, and $3,000 on the Mark VIII.
On the dealer side, the Continental and Mark VIII top out at $2,000, and the Town Car maximum is $1,000.
Saab is paying $2,500 to dealers for sales of the 1997 models in the 900 and 9000 lines. They are regional programs, and they end Aug. 31.
Acura has a customer rebate on the 1997 CL coupe. It is $500, and it expires Sept. 2.
Next Thursday, July 31, will be an important day in the world of new-car and truck incentives. Customer and/or dealer programs for eight imported makes are scheduled to expire that day.
Some of the offers will be extended or revised to cover the remainder of the 1997-model cleanup period.
In addition, customer rebates on the Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy sport-utilities are scheduled to end July 31.
On the dealer side, the expiring incentives are regional programs offered by Infiniti, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volkswagen and national programs for Suzuki and Toyota.
All cover 1997 models; 1996s are included for Suzuki and Toyota.
Customer incentives scheduled to expire July 31 are offered by Nissan, Infiniti and Mitsubishi (all regional, 1997 models) and by Kia and Toyota (both national, 1996-97 models).
