CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Subaru of America Inc. has held the line on prices for its 1998 models.
All 1998 Impreza sedans, coupes and wagons are priced the same as the final prices of the corresponding 1997 vehicles. The Brighton two-door, the 1997 price leader, has been dropped for 1998, and a top-of-the-line 2.5 RS two-door has been added. It is priced at $19,690.
The only change in the Legacy line is a $400 increase on the Outback Limited wagon, which now has a compact-disc/weather band radio and an eight-speaker sound system as standard equipment.
New Legacys for 1998 are a 2.5 GT Limited four-door and an Outback wagon with dual moonroofs.
Subaru raised prices an average of $424, or 2.1 percent, at the beginning of the 1997 model year. It made no interim increases during the 1997 season.
Joining the lineup for 1998 are four Forester selections, which start at $19,190. The Forester is built on a car platform, and Subaru calls it a sport-utility hybrid.
The SVX sport coupe has been dropped.
All prices in this article and in the accompanying table include the destination charge of $495, unchanged from 1997.
