DETROIT - United Technologies Automotive has eliminated 300 jobs at its headquarters in Dearborn, Mich.
The move follows the company's earlier decision to consolidate operations. United Technologies is combining its wire harness, motors and input systems into one division called Electrical Systems.
The job cuts will come through layoffs, voluntary retirements, attrition and contract employees who were let go. The supplier may cut its work force further, a spokesman said.
Separately, the company plans to build a $15 million factory in Poland, according to Bloomberg News Service. The plant will employ 500 workers at first, and employment will rise to 1,200 by 2000.
