GENERAL MOTORS NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS - Robert Socia was named executive director for worldwide chemical purchasing. He was manager of supplier quality for GM's Latin American Operations.
GENERAL MOTORS POWERTRAIN GROUP - Gilles Pre was named program manager for GM's front-wheel-drive global transmission program. He will be based at the European Technical Center in Strasbourg, France. He was manager of European sales and marketing for Delphi Steering Systems Division in Paris.
GENERAL MOTORS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY VEHICLES - William Ball was named director of strategic planning, effective Aug. 1. He is executive director of GM's government activities office in Washington.
BUICK - Deborah Eastern-Hall was named personnel director. She was personnel director for General Motors Powertrain Group's Defiance, Ohio, plant. Eastern-Hall succeeds Mary Kay Korty, who is retiring. Korty joined Buick in 1979.
TOYOTA MOTOR SALES U.S.A. INC. - George Borst has been promoted to senior vice president. He was group vice president. He is also senior vice president and general manager of subsidiaries Toyota Motor Credit Corp. and Toyota Motor Insurance Services.
VOLVO GM HEAVY TRUCK CORP. - The company has announced three appointments.
Rune Alsterholm has been appointed executive vice president and CFO, effective Aug. 1. He was finance director and acting president at Volvo Parts Corp. in Sweden.
Barry Langridge was named executive vice president of industrial operations. He was general manager for Kenworth Truck Co., a division of PACCAR Inc.
Chris Patterson was named executive vice president of sales and marketing. He was senior vice president for sales and marketing for Freightliner Corp.
NISSAN DIESEL AMERICA INC. - The company has announced three appointments.
Larry Schultz was promoted to vice president of parts and service. He was director of service operations.
Dave Dare was promoted to director of service operations. He was senior manager of service operations.
Ed Fischer was promoted to senior district manager. He was a district manager. He works with dealers in the Southeastern United States.
NAVISTAR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORTATION CORP. - The company has announced three appointments.
Gary Diaz was named group vice president and chief technical officer for the truck group. He was senior vice president at equipment maker Case Corp.
Ann Wiseman was named plant manager of the Springfield, Ohio, body plant. She was director of Navistar's Customer Responsiveness Center.
Bob Holz was named director of the Customer Responsiveness Center. He was materials manager at the Springfield assembly plant.
Navistar, based in Chicago, produces heavy and medium trucks and school buses and midrange diesel engines.
MOTOR AND EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION - Jim Lawrence was named director of engineering. He also will oversee the Automotive Exhaust Systems Manufacturers Council, the Brake Systems Parts Manufacturers Council, the Heavy Duty Brake Manufacturers Council and the Tune-Up Manufacturers Council. Lawrence will supervise these groups' moves from the association's New Jersey office to its headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C. The moves are planned to be completed by July 31.
Lawrence replaces Ralph VanDemark, who will retire as director of engineering and senior product group administrator when the transition is complete.
