TOKYO - Going against the trend, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has added two models it builds overseas to its Japanese lineup.
Other Japanese carmakers have been cutting back on so-called reimports because of the yen's weakness, strong demand abroad and a need to maintain production and employment at home.
Mitsubishi said it plans to sell 300 U.S.-built Eclipse Spyders a month in Japan, priced at ¥2.98 million, or about $25,913 at current exchange rates. The convertible is built at Mitsubishi's plant in Normal, Ill.
The company also plans to sell 100 Strada pickups a month in the home market. The truck, priced at $21,704, is built at a Mitsubishi affiliate in Thailand.
