Harold Kutner rules one of the auto industry's longest conference tables. ( Each Monday and Wednesday, General Motors' top purchaser gathers his lieutenants at 6: 45 a.m. at GM's North American headquarters in Warren, Mich. From a 30-foot table, they hook up to GM posts around the globe - from Melbourne to Russelsheim to Sao Paulo and Mexico City - and decide which suppliers will get business under GM's global purchasing plan.( Kutner, 56, was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and earned a degree in finance from State University of New York. ( He joined GM in 1963 in the finance department at Harrison Radiator Division. ( He was named to his current job - vice president of worldwide purchasing and North American production control and logistics - in 1994.
