Two Internet alliances were unveiled recently as the used-car industry continues to press forward into cyberspace.
Auto Trader Online (www.traderonline.com) and Warranty Gold have formed an Internet affiliation so car buyers using Auto Trader Online will be able to purchase a warranty from Warranty Gold.
Auto Trader Online, based in Norfolk, Va., says it lists about 250,000 vehicles on the Internet. Those vehicles are listed by either 12,000 participating AutoTrader dealers or from private parties.
Warranty Gold, of Albuquerque, N.M., sells warranties to customers who buy vehicles with expired factory warranties.
Kelley Blue Book and Carfax Vehicle History Service, compilers of vehicle information, have a joint marketing agreement to promote each other's Internet services via a hotlink.
Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com) offers used-car prices to consumers who are either shopping for a used car or want to know what their car is worth. Carfax Vehicle History Service (www.carfaxreport.com) offers a nationwide title search database that can identify problems such as salvage, junk and flood-damage titles as well as odometer rollbacks.
Customers checking Kelley Blue Book for a price can then click on the Carfax icon and do a quick title search, using the vehicle identification number.
