The QUEST Training Team of Johnson Controls Inc.'s Automotive Systems Group received an award of excellence from the International Society for Performance Improvement in Washington. The team designed and implemented a system to boost manufacturing efficiency. The system saved the company $8 million in two years. Johnson Controls' Automotive Systems Group, based in Plymouth, Mich., supplies vehicle seating and interior systems.
Gentex Corp. has been named component supplier of the year for the 1996 model year by Britax Inc. Gentex, based in Zeeland, Mich., supplies exterior automatic-dimming Night Vision Safety mirror subassemblies to Britax. The completed mirror systems are used on the Lincoln Town Car.
Eagle-Picher Automotive Group's Rubber Molding Division has received the 1996 Quality Achievement Award from Saturn Corp. The division has won the award in three of the last five years. The Rubber Molding Division, an original Saturn supplier, provides isolators for engine valve covers. Eagle-Picher Automotive is based in Inkster, Mich.
ITT Automotive has received a Quality Cup Award from the Rochester Institute of Technology and USA Today. The award recognizes the use of teamwork and total quality management to cut costs, solve problems and increase efficiency. ITT Automotive won the award for a quality program at the Rochester, N.Y., and Mississauga, Ontario, plants that led to the improvement of a windshield wiper system for Chrysler minivans. ITT Automotive is based in Auburn Hills, Mich.
Siegel-Robert Inc. of St. Louis, received the Chrysler Corp. Gold Pentastar Award for the 1996 model year. The award is given on the basis of quality, delivery and warranty. Siegel-Robert supplies interior and exterior plastic components, including handles and exterior mirrors.
Wheels - Superior Industries International Inc. has been awarded a multiyear contract from Ford Motor Co. to make three aluminum road wheel styles for the Lincoln Navigator sport-utility, beginning with the 1998 model year. Superior estimates the work could be worth $15 million annually. Superior, based in Van Nuys, Calif., supplies aluminum wheels and aftermarket accessories.
