The prototype caught in this photograph provides the best view so far of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S class, which bows in the United States in 1999. The styling is significantly more sporty and youthful than the current model, with its sculptured monochrome front bumper, modern headlight design and its long chiseled hood. The A-pillars, while thin at the top, are thicker at the base, resulting in a smooth transition from hood to windshield. The rear bumper rests nearly flush with the rest of the car's tail, making the entire vehicle appear as one integrated form.
