Printed circuit board substrate technology for transmission electronics

For Audi's 2014 A7 launch Continental's Powertrain Transmission Business Unit created the Bare-Die High-Density Interconnect (BD-HDI) substrate that enable breakthroughs in packaging, cost, and design flexibility for transmission control units. Using Continental's BD-HDI based controller Audi was able to ingrate both high power and signaling circuits on a single board dramatically increasing reliability while simultaneously reducing line-side installation costs to provide hydraulic "power on demand" for controlling their innovative new transmission. Continental's new controller architecture provides transmission designers with significantly greater flexibility for adding new functionality. Combined with other innovations Audi is able to state that its new transmission reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 10 grams per kilometer (16.1 g/mi).
