Before becoming CEO of Bert Ogden Auto Group, del Barrio worked dealer development for auto lenders. Visiting a variety of dealerships reminded her that everyone is an equal part of the team. Now as CEO of a dealership group, she strives to learn the needs and struggles of each position to figure out how to best support her associates.
Hall is a co-founder of the Nextgen group for the National Association of Minority Auto Dealers. The group now has 75 members. “It really is all about grooming a new set of candidates to be ready to see expansion opportunities, succession planning and whatnot,” Hall said.
Reed has moved away from direct mailers and radio advertising and focused the marketing budget on digital channels. “More than 80 percent of people who come into the store start the car-buying process online,” Reed said. “We focus on taking care of our digital showroom every bit as much as we focus on taking care of our actual showroom.”
As a regional controller, Whitman gives Hendrick’s dealerships real-time information on their costs. And because she works with two dozen Hendrick stores, she can share best practices throughout the region, even between dealerships that are 300 miles apart.
