Volkswagen is mulling new models to bolster its car-heavy U.S. lineup as it charts a U.S. recovery plan, its global brand chief says. VW brand chairman Herbert Diess didn't offer details on the models under study, but hinted strongly that VW is more likely to add more SUVs and crossovers than sedans.

Daimler is working on a new "hypercar" and also plans to expand its range of upmarket AMG Mercedes-Benz performance cars by at least 10 models. The hypercar, due to be produced in about 2.5 years' time, will feature the powertrain of the current Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 car with a modified gearbox and will be made from carbon fiber.
