Cost of mpg fuel standards could be 40% lower, report says

Technologies such as turbochargers, advanced transmissions and lighter materials -- aluminum instead of steel, for example -- could reduce fuel efficiency compliance costs by 34 percent to 40 percent per vehicle from 2022-25, the International Council on Clean Transportation said in a new report.
