NHTSA investigates fatal crash of Tesla Model S in Autopilot mode

NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation into 25,000 Tesla cars after a fatal crash in Florida involving a Model S with the "Autopilot" feature engaged, putting new scrutiny on emerging autonomous technology. Tesla, which informed regulators of the accident, said it represented “the first known fatality in just over 130 million miles where Autopilot was activated.”
